Santa Ana College in partnership with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department will be offering an Extended Modular Basic Academy starting in January of 2009. The program is taught by the Orange County Sheriff’s Basic Academy staff and has a reputation of excellence throughout the state of California.
The Basic Course - Modular Format is delivered in a three level instructional sequence. Successful completion of Level III, Level II, and Level I modules, satisfy the Regular Basic Course training as required by P.O.S.T. Upon completion of this academy the following appointment for Peace Officers is granted: PC 830.6(a)(1), PC 830.6(a)(2).
If you are interested in a career in law enforcement, the Modular Academy is an excellent program. The Modular Academy is ideal for the working person who is interested in a career in law enforcement but is unable to attend a full-time, six month Basic Academy. Modules III, II, and I are offered part-time in the evenings and on weekends during the course of a one year period or 816 hours of instruction, which exceeds the P.O.S.T. minimum requirement of 727 hours. In order to get a P.O.S.T. Basic Certificate an individual will be required to pass the Field Training Officer program and complete one year of probation. The Level III, II, and I Modules also satisfy P.O.S.T. requirements to become a Level III, II, and I Reserve Police Officer.
